Service on A Reverse Cycle Ducted Air Conditioner

clogged filter of a ducted aircon
  • MONTH/YEAR of JOB: December 2019
  • CLIENT SUBURB: South of the River
  • CLIENT TESTIMONIAL: 5-stars

This week’s reverse cycle air conditioning job in Southern River was for another new customer of ours.

Our customer contacted us after noticing their air conditioner was no longer as efficient as it used to be. They had also seen their energy usage and costs skyrocket over the last few months, which they suspected was due to the air conditioner working harder than normal.

Once we arrived at the property, one of the first things we checked, as always, was the return air filter. This is usually located in the rear passageway and looks similar to a large egg crate-style grille in the ceiling.

As you can see from the picture above, the filter on the right was extremely dirty and clogged with dust from years of use without being replaced.

A lot of people ask, “Why does this matter? Isn’t the filter doing its job?”

That is correct, the filter is doing its job. However, when it gets into this condition, it can cause problems for both the air conditioner and the people living in the home.

  • Poor air quality: Dirty air conditioner filters can cause allergen build-up. People who suffer from asthma or allergies may be affected by dust, mould, and other particles circulating through the system.
  • Freezing on air conditioner pipework: A clogged filter can restrict airflow, which may cause the air conditioner pipework to freeze. Over time, this can damage important parts of the unit and lead to costly repairs.
  • Reduced efficiency and higher running costs: Air conditioners use thermostats to measure temperature differences and cool the home efficiently. Dirty filters can affect these readings, causing the air conditioner to work harder and run longer to cool the home. This can lead to higher energy bills.

Dirty air filters are a very common problem in air conditioning systems around homes and businesses. The good news is air filters can usually be cleaned monthly or replaced with a simple filter material change-out to help keep the unit running at its full potential.

The cost of changing a filter is minimal compared to the expensive repairs that can come from compressor or evaporator coil damage.

Global Cool Air are only a phone call away to service your air conditioner and give you peace of mind that your system is working efficiently and not costing more to run than it should.
